Books Not Bombs Pledge

As the 4th Anniversary of the Iraq War approaches, youth and students must continue
to make our voices and demands heard. We went to the ballot box on November 7th,
took to the streets on Jan. 27th and went to the halls of Congress on Jan. 29th to
demand “Books Not Bombs”.  The Bush Administration continues to put our future on
the line to fund the war in Iraq. Instead of listening to the peace sentiment expressed by
the American public in the Nov. elections, Bush wants to spend billions more on his war
and escalate the number of troops in Iraq.

To pay for his illegal war, Bush has cut billions of dollars in student financial aid, robbed
our public schools of needed money, slashed veterans benefits and gutted job training
programs. By the end of 2007, Bush will have spent $450 Billion on the war and
occupation of Iraq. Instead of spending the money on a needless war, we could have:

* Paid for 53 million more children to attend head start
* Provided 242 million youth with health insurance
* Hired 7 million more public school teachers
* Given 19 million college students four-year scholarships at public universities

On March 19th, I pledge to organize and mobilize youth and students to take a
stand and demand “Books Not Bombs”. I will wear my opposition to the war on
my sleeve with the “Books Not Bombs” button and I will lobby my
Representative and Senators to wear the buttons too. I will organize other
youth and students to take action in their local communities and lobby their
representatives in Washington to end the war and support “Books Not
Bombs”. I am joining with youth and students across in saying NO to war and
occupation and YES to peace, jobs for youth and money for education.
